He visualized the Romans as champions of freedom and order; the Parthians are of course not mentioned but present to his thought when he equates the Persians with the forces of evil, destruction and despotism. Aristides' attitude toward the Roman Empire remains in the Panathenaic (section 234) essentially what it was in the Roman Oration of his youth.
